It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting to assembly items for your disaster kit or already have many items gathered, you need a list to help you cover the basics. To better help everyone prepare, I have included a link to my survival gear checklist. This is a PDF file that can be downloaded, printed and shared as needed.

This checklist is not all inclusive but it does make a great starting point. As you browse through the items on the list, think about how these items may or may not be applicable for your specific situation. Use these items as a suggestion and consider how they, or something like them might be useful to you, your family or friends. More

When I mention creating a checklist, these items must be consider no matter if you purchase your supplies or create them from scratch.  The basics are just that and do not cover your unique circumstances. Plan for the most probable disaster first, then expand as resources permit.

Top Survival Needs

Water

You may be able to survive for days without food, but you must have water. Water is the most important item in my opinion. Our body needs it, we use it for cooking and also basic hygiene. Remember that when you store water, it is heavy. If you use large containers, you might lose the convenience of portability. More

Survival ListIt’s all about being prepared. You’ve decided you must start planning and you’re ready to stash survival bags throughout your house and automobiles. Before you start stuffing your bags full of survival items, take some time to create a basic survival list first.

Creating a list is not nearly as fun as working with the items themselves, but this initial planning will save you both time and money increasing your odds of survivability. Use this initial step to really think about the items you need, the basics, and it can grow from there. As you prioritize the items on your list, you are creating a shopping list to compare what you have versus what you need to get as time and money allow. More

survival items basic listWhen people think of survival items and home preparedness, they tend to think of those dramatic events that we see on TV and in action movies.

However, one of the most likely scenarios that we will find ourselves facing is fairly common, a power outage for several hours. How often have you lost power at your home or office? Chances are, it has happen more frequently than a solar storm wiping out the power grid or an invasion by zombies.

I’m not saying that these things can’t or won’t happen, I’m just saying that the probability is much lower, so we should increase our odds of survival by beginning our preparedness plans on those situations that are most likely. More

Survival ListHaving a survival list is something everyone should consider. This list is more than just items that should be purchased from the store. It is also more than just things you will need, it is about understanding why you need these things and what to do with them. Once a disaster strikes, it could be too late to get those things that you forgot to add or obtain from your list.

The real advantage to having or creating your own list is the fact that is can be as simple or as complex as you decide to make it. Depending on your specific situation, you can tailor the items to your individual needs and lifestyle. You can also work these items into almost any budget.

When preparing a list, you should take into consideration the most basics needs and then expand your list as time and resources are available. Your list should also be based around the people in your family, your pets and where you live. For example, if you live in the desert, you might not need to plan specifically for a hurricane, but water could be a major concern. More
